I downloaded it yesterday. It comes as part of the BT Yahoo Internet package, and my thought was that if sixty quid’s worth of software is free, I might as well have it.
The un-installation is complete. It’s the worst bit of bloatware I’ve encountered since Windows itself. It took ages to install, it took ages to update, and when it prompted me to reboot, it took ages to log on afterwards.
I don’t have that many startup programs, and those that insist that they’ve got to be running come rain or shine are prevented from doing so, therefore there had to be only one reason for the PC’s sluggish performance - Norton!
So, I’ve gone back to AVG. It’s still free (as in beer), but it’s a hell of a lot smaller and, let’s face it, I’ve been running it without any problems for about six years now. How is it the old saying goes? If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!
yea I have had norton for nearly two years with multiple errors claiming that norton caused it. I never realized this until i read what it actually said. Lately I downloaded macafee, wich has been excellent and i have not had any problems with it.
I installed quite recently. Bootup now takes 10mins instead of 3! The actual PC performance once it actually starts is very good. I wonder if there’s a way to streamline the startup process. Read somewhere else that you could disable the yahoo online protection service and run Norton by itself - I tried this and nothing loads up at all
Any ideas, apart from the obvious?
