Design Patterns: Badges, Tag Clouds, Huge Fonts | Graphics | Smashing Magazine
Whilst engaging in my latest hobby (Stumbling, in case you hadn’t noticed), I’ve been taking note of the various styles and designs that people use for their web sites. My own site is in its embryonic stages, and as I’m not exactly not the most creative person in the world, new ideas are always welcome. Actually, it’s not embryonic - it’s at the pre-conception “twinkle-in-father’s-eye” stage, really.
Since the so-called Web 2.0 phenomenon has sprung to life, the web seems to have become a little bit more colourful, as well as a bit more rounded. But I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, but when it arrived it was refreshing to see sites that were a little less “corporate” - e.g. IBM.
However, this article in Smashing Magazine hit the nail right on the head. But according to this more recent article of theirs, it’s old hat. Grunge is the new black. Or something like that.
Oh well, back to the drawing board I suppose.
